AUSTRALIAN SECURITY INTELLIGENCE ORGANIZATION ACT 1979 No. 113 of 1979 - SECT 48

48. (1) The Minister may appoint a Deputy President to act as President during
any period, or during all periods, when the President is absent from duty or
from Australia or during a vacancy in the office of President.

(2) A person acting in pursuance of an appointment under sub-section (1) has
all the powers, and shall perform all the functions and duties, of the
President.

(3) A person appointed under sub-section (1) may resign that appointment by
writing under his hand delivered to the Minister.
