AUSTRALIAN LAW REFORM COMMISSION ACT 1996 No. 37, 1996 - SECT 14

14 Acting appointments: full-time members

(1) The Attorney-General may appoint a part-time member to act as a full-time
member (other than the President or Deputy President) during any period, or
during all periods, when the full-time member is, for any reason, unable to
perform the functions of the office.

(2) Anything done by a person purporting to act under an appointment under
this section is not invalid merely because:

   (a)  the occasion for the appointment had not arisen; or

   (b)  there was a defect or irregularity in or in connection with the
        appointment; or

   (c)  the appointment had stopped having effect; or

   (d)  the occasion for the person to act had not arisen or had stopped.
