ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER COMMISSION AMENDMENT ACT (No. 3) 1993 No. 1 of 1994 - SECT 54

54. Section 117 of the Principal Act is amended:
(a) by inserting "otherwise than at a by-election to fill a casual vacancy"
after "Council";

   (b)  by adding at the end the following subsection:

"(2) A person elected, or declared to have been elected, as a member of a
Regional Council at a by-election to fill a casual vacancy:

   (a)  takes office as member immediately after the day on which the poll is
        declared in relation to that by-election; and

   (b)  holds office, subject to this Part, until immediately before the last
        day on which a poll is declared in relation to an election in the next
        round of Regional Council elections.".
