Archives Act 1983 No. 79 of 1983 - SECT 27

27. (1) Subject to this Part, when a Commonwealth record in the possession of
a Commonwealth institution other than the Archives has ceased (whether before
or after the commencement of this Part) to be required to be readily available
for the purposes of a Commonwealth institution, the person responsible for the
custody of the record shall, unless the record is lawfully destroyed, cause it
to be transferred to the custody of the Archives in accordance with
arrangements approved by the Archives.

(2) Subject to this Part, where a Commonwealth record in the possession of a
Commonwealth institution other than the Archives has been in existence as a
Commonwealth record for 25 years, the Commonwealth institution shall, as soon
as it is practicable to do so, cause the record to be transferred to the
custody of the Archives in accordance with arrangements approved by the
Archives.
