NAVIGATION (FIRE APPLIANCES) REGULATIONS 1968 - REG 11A

Emergency internal communications and alarm systems

(1)
No component of:

(a)
an emergency internal communications system; or

(b)
an emergency alarm system;

in a ship shall be located in an enclosed space in the ship comprising:

(c)
a galley;

(d)
a machinery space; or

(e)
any other space in which there is, under the normal conditions of operation of the ship, a high risk of fire;

unless:

(f)
the location of that component in that first-mentioned space is necessary to provide emergency communications to, or emergency alarm facilities in, that space; and

(g)
the destruction of that component in a fire in the first-mentioned space would not render the systems referred to in paragraphs (a) and (b) inoperative in other areas of the ship.

(2)
In subregulation (1), emergency internal communications system includes, in relation to a ship, an internal communications system used for normal communications within the ship but also intended to be used for internal communications within the ship in an emergency situation.
