Commonwealth Consolidated Acts Commonwealth Consolidated Acts(1) A prescribed officer may require the owner or master of a ship, by written notice given to the owner or master, as the case may be, to cause a specified quantity of garbage to be disposed of within a specified period from the ship to a specified facility that is suitable to receive that quantity of garbage if the officer has reason to believe that retention of the garbage would create a risk of disposal from the ship into the sea.
(2) The owner or master of a ship to whom a notice is given under subsection (1) must comply with the notice.
Penalty: 500 penalty units.
