Regulations MINISTERS OF STATE ACT 1952 - LONG TITLE An Act to determine the number of the Ministers of State and to make provision for their Salaries and Allowances MINISTERS OF STATE ACT 1952 - SECT 1 Short title [see Note 1] This Act may be cited as the Ministers of State Act 1952. MINISTERS OF STATE ACT 1952 - SECT 2 Commencement This Act shall be deemed to have come into operation on 1st January, 1952. MINISTERS OF STATE ACT 1952 - SECT 4 Number of Ministers The number of the Ministers of State must not exceed: (a) in the case of those designated, when appointed by the Governor-General, as Parliamentary Secretary--12; and (b) in the case of those not so designated--30. MINISTERS OF STATE ACT 1952 - SECT 5 Salaries of Ministers The annual sum payable under section 66 of the Constitution for the salaries of the Ministers of State must not exceed the following amount in a financial year: (a) $3,500,000; (b) if a higher amount is prescribed by the regulations--that higher amount. MINISTERS OF STATE ACT 1952 - SECT 6 Additional allowances to Ministers of State There are payable to the Ministers of State, in addition to their salaries, and in addition to any allowances payable to them as senators or members of the House of Representatives, such respective allowances as are determined by the Remuneration Tribunal in pursuance of the Remuneration Tribunals Act 1973. MINISTERS OF STATE ACT 1952 - SECT 7 Regulations The Governor-General may make regulations prescribing matters: (a) required or permitted by this Act to be prescribed; or (b) necessary or convenient to be prescribed for carrying out or giving effect to this Act.
