Ministers of State Amendment Bill 1999

OUTLINE

The purpose of this Bill is to amend the Ministers of State Act 1952 to increase the limit on the sum appropriated from the Commonwealth Consolidated Revenue Fund in respect of the salaries of Ministers. The increase is necessary because of the increase in the number of ministers from 28 to 30, and the increase in the number of cabinet ministers to 17, since the current monetary limit was set in 1996.

FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT

The effect of this change is to increase the maximum sum payable in ministerial salaries by $22,000.
