A Bill for an Act to amend the Bounty (Books) Act
1986, the Bounty (Computers) Act 1984, the Bounty (Machine Tools
and Robots) Act 1985 and the Bounty (Ships) Act
1989
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
This Act may be cited as the Bounty Legislation Amendment Act
1997.
(1) Subject to subsection (2), this Act commences on the day on which it
receives the Royal Assent.
(2) Schedule 1 is taken to have commenced at 7.30 pm by standard time in
the Australian Capital Territory on 20 August 1996.
Subject to section 2, each Act that is specified in a Schedule to
this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the
Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect
according to its terms.
1 Subsection 4(1) (definition of bounty
period)
Omit “31 December 1997”, substitute “30 June
1997”.
2 Paragraph 14(4)(d)
Repeal the paragraph, substitute:
(d) be lodged with a Collector for a State, or with the CEO
before:
(i) the end of the period of 12 months beginning after the completion of
the production of those books; or
(ii) 1 October 1997;
whichever first occurs.
3 Paragraph 15(2)(d)
Repeal the paragraph, substitute:
(d) be lodged with a Collector for a State, or with the CEO
before:
(i) the end of the period of 12 months beginning after the completion of
the production of those books; or
(ii) 1 October 1997;
whichever first occurs.
4 Subsection 3(1) (definition of bounty
period)
Omit “31 December 2000”, substitute “30 June
1997”.
5 Paragraph 10(h)
Omit “1 January 2001”, substitute “1 July
1997”.

(Machine Tools and Robots) Act 1985
6 Subsection 4(1) (definition of bounty
period)
Repeal the definition, substitute:
bounty period means the period starting on 1 July 1985 and
ending on:
(a) in relation to the manufacture or modification of bountiable equipment
to which paragraph (b) does not apply—20 August 1996; or
(b) in relation to the manufacture or modification of bountiable
equipment:
(i) that had commenced before 7.30 pm by standard time in the Australian
Capital Territory on 20 August 1996; or
(ii) for which a contract had been entered into before that time by a
person who claims to be entitled to be paid bounty;
20 February 1997.
7 Subsection 4(1) (definition of terminating
day)
Repeal the definition.
8 Paragraph 21(2)(d)
Repeal the paragraph, substitute:
(d) be lodged with a Collector for a State or Territory, or with the
CEO:
(i) in the case of bountiable equipment AA—before the end of the
period of 12 months beginning after the day on which the condition specified in
subsection 16(5) was complied with in respect of that equipment, or before 21
May 1997, whichever first occurs; or
(ii) in the case of a claim in respect of bountiable equipment
AB—before the end of the period of 12 months beginning after the day on
which the condition specified in subsection 16(5) or (6) was complied with in
respect of that equipment, or before 21 May 1997, whichever first occurs;
or
(iii) in the case of a claim in respect of bountiable equipment
B—before the end of the period of 12 months beginning after the day
on which the condition specified in paragraph 16(8)(e) or (f) was complied with
in respect of that equipment, or before 21 May 1997, whichever first
occurs.
9 Paragraph 22(2)(d)
Repeal the paragraph, substitute:
(d) be lodged with a Collector for a State or Territory, or with the CEO,
before:
(i) the end of the period of 12 months beginning after the day on which
the condition specified in subsection 16(5) or (6) or paragraph 16(8)(e) or
(f) (as the case requires) was complied with in respect of the bountiable
equipment; or
(ii) 21 May 1997;
whichever first occurs.
10 Subsection 4(1) (definition of period to
which this Act applies)
Omit “30 June 1997”, substitute “31 December
1997”.
11 Section 10
Omit “1 July 1997”, substitute “1 January
1998”.
12 Paragraph 10(f)
Omit “30 June 1997”, substitute “31 December
1997”.
