     The Parliament of Australia enacts:

     1 Short title
26

                 This Act may be cited as the Australian Capital Territory
27
                 (Self-Government) Amendment (Disallowance Power of the
28
                 Commonwealth) Act 2006.

     2 Commencement

                 This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal
31
                 Assent.

                   Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or
 2
                   repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule
 3
                   concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect
 4
                   according to its terms.

     4 Objects
 6

                   The objects of this Act are to:
 7
                    (a) remove the Governor-General's power under the Australian
 8
                        Capital Territory (Self-Government) Act 1988 to disallow
 9
                        any Act of the Legislative Assembly for the Australian
10
                        Capital Territory; and
11
                    (b) to provide exclusive legislative authority and responsibility
12
                        for making laws for the Australian Capital Territory to the
13
                        Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory.
