CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE ACT 1999 (NO. 63 OF 1999) - SECT 408

Understanding proceedings

    In a proceeding under this Act or another law of the Territory in any court having jurisdiction in the Territory to which a child or young person is a party, the court must endeavour to ensure that the child or young person and any other party present at the hearing of the proceeding—

        (a)     understand the nature and purpose of the proceeding and of any order that the court proposes to make or has made; and

        (b)     if any relevant right of appeal exists—are aware of the existence of a right of appeal against the relevant finding or order of the court.
