LEGAL PROFESSION ACT 2006 - SECT 200

Investigation of applicants and locally-registered foreign lawyers etc

    (1)     To help it consider whether or not to grant, renew, amend, suspend or cancel registration under this part, the relevant council may, by written notice to the applicant or foreign lawyer, require the applicant or lawyer—

        (a)     to give it stated documents or information; or

        (b)     to cooperate with any inquiries by the relevant council that it considers appropriate.

    (2)     A person's failure to comply with a notice under subsection (1) within the reasonable period, and in the reasonable way, (if any) required by the notice is a ground for refusing to grant or renew registration or to amend, suspend, cancel or impose conditions on registration under this part.

    (3)     The relevant council may refer a matter to the Supreme Court for directions.
