LEGISLATION ACT 2001 - SECT 22A

Definitions—ch 3

In this chapter:

"law" means an Act or statutory instrument, whether or not it has been amended, and includes, in relation to a republication

        (a)     a collection of 2 or more Acts or statutory instruments; or

        (b)     all or part of an agreement or other instrument that has the force of law or is in, or attached to, an Act or statutory instrument.

Note     A reference to an Act or statutory instrument includes a reference to a provision of the Act or instrument (see s 7 and s 13).

"legislative material" means material (other than a law or provision of a law) relating to an Act or statutory instrument.

Examples—legislative material

1     Additional material entered in the register under s 19 (3) (Contents of register) that is not an Act or statutory instrument, for example, appointments of Ministers. Ministers are appointed by the Chief Minister under the Self-Government Act

, s 41. An instrument notifying an appointment may be entered in the register even though the instrument is not a statutory instrument.

2     Material that may be considered under ch 14 in working out the meaning of an Act or statutory instrument, for example, an explanatory statement for the bill that became the relevant Act that was presented to the Legislative Assembly before the Act was passed.

"republication" includes part of a republication.
