LEGISLATION ACT 2001 - SECT 157 Defined terms—other parts of speech and grammatical forms
LEGISLATION ACT 2001 - SECT 157
Defined terms—other parts of speech and grammatical formsIf an Act or statutory instrument defines a term, other parts of speech and grammatical forms of the term have corresponding meanings.
Example
The Publication (Grants) Act 2001 contains a definition of publish
and also contains other forms of the same word (‘published',
‘publisher', ‘publishes', ‘publishing' and
‘publication'). Because of this section, all forms of the word will have
the same meaning except so far as the Act otherwise expressly provides or a
contrary intention appears (see s 6 (3)).
Note See also ch 10 (Referring to laws).
