ELECTORAL ACT 1992 - SECT 173

Conduct of the polling

    (1)     The polling at a station shall be conducted as follows:

        (a)     before any vote is taken, the returning officer shall exhibit a ballot box empty, and shall then securely fasten its cover;

        (b)     subject to subsection (2), the poll shall be conducted during the hours on the days the returning officer directs;

        (c)     the returning officer or the assistant returning officer shall, at all times when the poll is open, be present in that part of the station where the polling is taking place.

    (2)     The polling at a station shall not continue beyond the time that is

6 pm in the ACT on polling day for the election.
