ELECTORAL ACT 1992 - SECT 168
Returning officers and assistants for Antarctic stations(1) The commissioner must appoint a returning officer, and an assistant returning officer, for each station.

Note 2 In particular, a person may be appointed for a particular provision of a law (see Legislation Act 2001
, s 7 (3)) and an appointment may be made by naming a person or nominating the occupant of a position (see s 207).
(2) The commissioner or the person in charge of a station may appoint an acting returning officer, or acting assistant returning officer, for a station.
(3) However, the person in charge of a station must not be appointed to be the returning officer, or assistant returning officer, for the station.
