Australian Capital Territory Consolidated Acts(1) A person commits an offence if the person sets a steel-jawed trap or prohibited trap with the intention of catching an animal.
Maximum penalty: 100 penalty units, imprisonment for 1 year or both.
(2) A person commits an offence if the person possesses a steel-jawed trap or prohibited trap.
Maximum penalty: 5 penalty units.
(3) An offence against this section is a strict liability offence.
(4) Subsection (2) does not apply in relation to the possession of a trap kept only—
(a) for the purpose of display; or
(b) as a curio or part of a collection.
(5) In this section:
"prohibited trap" means a trap prescribed by regulation for this section.
