This Explanatory Statement relates to the Government amendments to the
Optometrists Legislation Amendment Bill 2004 (the Bill).

Revenue/Cost Implications

There are no cost implications.


Item 1

This item inserts a note under the proposed new section 11 of the Poisons Act 1933.
The note will make it clear that an optometrist may only sell poisons and poisonous
substances as allowed by his or her optometrist drug authority.

Item 2

This item inserts a note under proposed new section 16 of the Poisons Act 1933. this
note will make it clear that an optometrist may only sell biological preparations and
restricted substances as allowed by his or her optometrist drug authority.

A further note to the same effect is inserted in relation to authorised nurse
practitioners.
