Outline
The Canberra Tourism and Events Corporation Amendment Bill 2003 amends
the Canberra Tourism and Events Corporation Act 1997
to:
• change the name of the Corporation from Canberra Tourism
and Events Corporation to Australian Capital Tourism Corporation;
and
• increase the size of the Board from the current seven members to
nine.
Clause notes
Clause 1 – Name of Act – states the title of the
Act, which is the Canberra Tourism and Events Corporation Amendment Act
2003.
Clause 2 – Commencement – states when the Act
commences. All amendments are to commence on the day after
notification.
Clause 3 – Act amended – provides that
this Act amends the Canberra Tourism and Events Corporation Act
1997.
Clause 4 – Title - substitutes the Title ‘An Act
to establish the Australian Capital Tourism Corporation, and for related
purposes’ for the current ‘An Act to establish the Canberra Tourism
and Events Corporation, and for related purposes’.
Clause 5
– Name of Act – substitutes the Name ‘ This Act is the
Australian Capital Tourism Corporation Act 1997’ for the existing
‘This Act is the Canberra Tourism and Events Corporation Act
1997’.
Clause 6 – Definitions for Act – Section
3, definition of corporation – substitutes the Definition
‘corporation means the Australian Capital Tourism
Corporation’ for the existing ‘corporation means Canberra
Tourism and Events Corporation’.
Clause 7 – Establishment
– Section 4 (1) – substitutes ‘the Australian Capital
Tourism Corporation is established’ for the existing ‘the Canberra
Tourism and Events Corporation is established’.
Clause 8 –
Constitution – Section 8 (1) – provides for an increase in the
size of the Corporation’s Board from the existing seven to nine members,
and provides that the additional two members be appointed by the Minister as is
the case with existing members. This is to be achieved by substituting
‘the corporation consists of 9 members, as follows: (a) a chairperson and
6 other people appointed by the Minister...’ for the existing ‘the
corporation consists of 7 members, as follows: (a) a chairperson and 4 other
persons...’.
