NATIONAL CONFERENCE

The third annual National Australian Corporate Lawyers Association Conference will be held on 21 March at the Hotel Inter-Continental in Sydney.

The conference will feature updates on various current legal issues with a similar format to previous conferences which were outstanding successes.

Corporate lawyers are invited to attend the conference lunch and also the conference dinner at which Peter Kaye, "The Ultimate Impressionist" will be speaking. Additional guests may be invited to the conference dinner.

The conference will enable corporate lawyers to meet with their colleagues and learn about recent developments in areas of the law relevant to corporate legal practice and will provide an opportunity for discussion about these areas.

We are delighted that the opening address will be provided by federal Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Daryl Williams, AM QC.

The following presentations will also be made:

We look forward to seeing you at the third national conference.

If you would like further details, please contact either the New South Wales executive officer, Mary Jane Silver, on (02) 9868 3549 or Ian Taylor of Pacific Dunlop on (03) 9270 7229.

HOME OFFICE

At a recent meeting Nina Basset reported that finalising the proposed publication Flying Solo will be delayed due to the present changes within the profession.

MENTORS

The mentor system is working very effectively and activity in that area has increased in recent weeks, according to Graham Lederman.

CLE

Graham Lederman reported on the social function held on 22 November last year. He said the event was a modest success despite a relatively small number of attendees.

DISCUSSION GROUPS

Tony O'Brien & Associates of Ferntree Gully has notified the Committee that a new discussion group has been formed - the Outer Eastern Solicitors' Discussion Group.

The group covers the areas of Ferntree Gully, Wantirna, Belgrave, Monbulk and Bayswater and meets approximately every two months.

The meetings, with various guest speakers, have been held at lunchtime on Mon-days in a private room at the Knox Club.

People interested in the discussion group should contact Tony O'Brien on DX 15502 Boronia, tel (03) 9758 1077 or fax (03) 9758 5702.

Tony Hohtoulas reported that the Yarra Discussion Group had a very disappointing meeting on 15 November when only two practitioners attended. Two excellent speakers had been invited to address the group and the two attendees were very embarrassed by the lack of interest from other practitioners. People interested in this group should make an effort to attend and should contact Tony Hohtoulas about future meetings and discussions.

MAILING LIST

Members of the profession who would like to have their names entered on the mailing list for Alone Together (the news-letter for all small practices comprising three partners or less) or who want to apply for inclusion in the new Networking Referrals Directory should advise Patricia Duke as soon as possible. Her address is 40 Storey Street, Parkville 3052, fax (03) 9347 6768.
