About The Human Rights Defender

The Human Rights Defender is a quarterly human rights bulletin, published jointly by the Diplomacy Training Program and the Human Rights Centre at the University of New South Wales.

Editorial Policy

The Human Rights Defender espouses a non-sectarian stance on human rights. Its primary objective is to provide information and comment on a broad range of current issues in human rights. The Defender aims to be information and education focused, newsworthy and relevant. The Defender also seeks to provide a platform for the expression of critical thinking and the discussion of conceptual developments in human rights.

The Defender seeks to highlight issues not covered in mainstream media and other human rights publications. The Defender has a particular interest in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as indigenous peoples' rights, the rights of women and children, economic and social rights, and development and environment issues.

The Defender is intended to appeal to all those with an interest in and commitment to human rights. It seeks, in particular, to bring together individuals and organisations involved in human rights advocacy and education.

Regular features include lead articles, commentaries, World Round-Up, Human Rights Calendar, Recent Publications, accounts of the activities of the Diplomacy Training Program and the Human Rights Centre, and other short reports on human rights issues and developments. From time to time, the Human Rights Defender produces an issue on a particular theme. Thematic issues are announced in advance and contributions sought.
