5.2. Document control databases
Document control databases, described briefly in Chapter 2, are essentially
used to create summaries of documents, and are sometimes referred to as
'document registration' or 'summary databases'. Flat file database managers,
or hybrid database / free text retrieval systems are most likely to be used to
create and maintain them.
Uses and desirable features
There is little written on the use of document control systems specifically in
criminal prosecutions or trials, and no known standards, although Livermore
(1992) indicates some of the desirable features (see also
Tompkins (1992), Seaman (1992) and Crosbie (1988)). The
